On this date in 1971, Ringo Starr released his first solo record “It Don’t Come Easy.”
Here’s an interesting fact about the Fab Four.
The Beatles are the only group in history in which each of the members sang lead on different #1 songs while with the group AND… each had #1 songs as solo artists.
George, who sang lead on The Beatles classic “Something” was the first to have a solo #1. In 1970 “My Sweet Lord” reached the top of the charts.
It took Paul, who sang lead on many Beatle #1 songs, three years after the group disbanded to land a #1 song “My Love” off the “Red Rose Speedway” album.
Ringo was next to hit #1 in 1973 with “Photograph”. Of course, he was the voice on The Beatle’s classic #1 hit “Yellow Submarine.”
The last to have a #1 solo was John with “Whatever Gets You Through the Night” in 1974. Surprisingly, it was John’s only #1 solo hit during his lifetime. “Imagine” reached only #2, while all three singles from “Double Fantasy” were released after his death.
