Entertainers and speakers … they can be a glamorous part of winning events. But if you don’t have a full understanding of who you’re dealing with, then booking them can become a catastrophe for you.
Officials at a university in the northeast told us of how celebrities in three straight events refused to do their meet and greets. This created problems for the planners with the sponsors of the various events, who were expecting to meet the entertainers as part of their sponsorship packages. In each case they appealed to the person who booked the talent, but in each case that person represented the talent and not the university. They were told there was no recourse.
That, of course, isn’t true. Contracts must be honored by both parties, so you need to make sure you have leverage to get everything you’re entitled to.
That’s why it’s best to hire someone who represents you to book your events. If they’ve got you’re interests at heart then you’ll get the most appropriate entertainer or speaker for your event and they’ll fulfill every part of their contract.
